County-Wide GIS Implementation Promotes Cooperation

What was the area's issue or challenge?

Imagine a basketball team where the players on the court functioned individually. Without a strategy to reach the basket, everyone ends up running in different directions on the court. This is what Ozaukee County noticed with its municipalities. Each was rapidly expanding the usage of their web-based GIS tools, but all were running to different baskets.

How did R/M assist Ozaukee County in solving the problem?

A well-coordinated strategy was the solution. Each municipality and the County are working under a countywide web portal. They have secure access to view their own information, but with direction the municipalities are following similar paths when gathering information. In addition, by hosting their GIS services on Ruekert/Mielke’s cloud, they do not have to worry about IT management, services or staff.

How has Ozaukee County benefited from their GIS consolidation?

An intergovernmental agreement (a.k.a. team meeting) gave each municipality a common GIS goal. As a team, the municipalities now function on a well-coordinated GIS system streamlining development efforts, while minimizing both short and long-term implementation and maintenance costs.
